About Helpers

In 2016 Arastoo & Megan Yazdani saw the refugee crisis first hand. Volunteering in the camps of Athens and Lesvos opened their eyes to the reality of the struggle. Thousands of families, fleeing war, looking for safety, looking for a way to rebuild their lives once more. They came back to Perth with a passion to share what they had witnessed and find a way to help.

In 2021 a group of us decided it's the right time! Helpers was born.

We hold fundraiser events, rally support and send the funds to help.

We believe everyone has a desire to help someone who is down on their luck. However, sometimes the need may seem overwhelming and we don't know where or how to start. That's where Helpers comes in. With a clear and precise avenue to help, we can all chip in and make a real difference together.

Sharif & Alaina

Meet our Helpers Team Leaders on the ground in Athens, Greece.

Sharif & Alaina have been working with the refugee community in Greece for many years and have a heart to help people through the darkest season of their lives.

Sharif came to Greece, from Afghanistan, through extreme hardship himself. He has first hand experience of how difficult the journey is for the refugee community.

Alaina left her comfortable life in the U.S, to volunteer and help in the refugee camps of Greece.

They are happily married and devote their time together to help.

Why Greece?

After the devastating Syrian War had raged on for a few years, in 2015, the world could no longer look away. Europe opened its borders and invited those afflicted by the atrocities to come and find refuge.

The best route in to Europe is through Greece.
More recent wars have seen refugees from different nations take the same path, fleeing for their lives and looking to rebuild.
